TASTING NOTES
Our 2005 Heritage Cuvée is a classic Rhône-style blend of Syrah (45%), Mourvèdre (23%), Grenache (17%) and Cinsault (14%) from our estate vineyards and Vogelzang Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. It begins with bright, spicy aromas of plum, strawberry, clove and oak toast. The palate is rich and juicy, with flavors of black cherry, blueberry, raspberry and cola. Fine tannins are woven into a clean, balanced finish.
VINEYARDS
Our estate Crossroads Vineyard occupies an oak-studded nook adjacent to our winery in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. Here, well-drained soils of sandy loam and limestone impart intensity and complexity to the fruit. Vogelzang Vineyard unfolds along rolling hills at the foot of the Los Padres National Forest in the eastern Santa Ynez Valley. This warmer location yields bright, high-toned fruit that contributes added dimension to the blend.
FOOD PAIRING
The 2005 Heritage Cuvée is an excellent match hearty or spicy fare, including rack of lamb, pasta Bolognese, Santa Marie-style barbecue, and gourmet pizza with sausage and herbs.
ABOUT THE HERITAGE SERIES
Inspired by the pleasurable table wines of the southern Rhône Valley, Winemaker Chuck Carlson established our Heritage Series in order to craft unique, flavorful cuvées for everyday enjoyment. These wines hail from small vineyards along California's Central Coast, where Rhône varietals excel amid the coastal Mediterranean climate. After aging, the individual lots are blended with emphasis on approachability and complexity. Curtis Heritage Series wines are widely renowned for offering exceptional value and quality.
