TASTING NOTES
The 2007 Viognier offers fresh aromas of lilac, citrus and toasted coconut. The palate is bright and focused, with flavors of peach, lime, pineapple and mineral. A hint of creaminess lingers on an otherwise crisp, quenching finish.
Winemaker Chuck Carlson
VOGELZANG VINEYARD
The Vogelzang Vineyard unfolds along rolling hills at the foot of Los Padres National Forest in the eastern Santa Ynez Valley. This winegrowing frontier, which is known as Happy Canyon, is the warmest growing area in coastal Santa Barbara County. Here, the valley loam soil is riddled with river cobble deposited by ancient waterways. Vogelzang Vineyard's special convergence of sun and earth yields a pure expression of the Viognier grape.
WINEMAKING
After light pressing, the juice was cold fermented in stainless steel for the preservation of pure aromas and natural fruit character. Half of the wine was aged in stainless steel tanks to further capture vivid fruit qualities, while the other half was aged in a French oak upright tank to bring added weight to the palate.
ABOUT CURTIS WINERY
Since our inaugural vintage in 1995, we have specialized in small lots of Rhône-style wines from Santa Barbara County's Santa Ynez Valley. Our vineyards are nestled into the sun-kissed coastal terrain surrounding our winery, where a singular synergy of soil and climate yields grapes of remarkable intensity and balance. Winemaker Chuck Carlson crafts our wines in small individual lots, employing the gentlest hands-on methods to nurture every nuance of both vineyard and vintage. We are honored to share with you what nature alone can give us.
