TASTING NOTES
The 2006 Viognier offers a nuanced bouquet of white peach, lime and honeysuckle with mineral accents. The palate begins on a creamy note with fresh flavors of apricot, pear, pineapple and citrus. Crisp acidity brings the wine into full focus and balance, leading to a clean, refreshing finish.
Winemaker Chuck Carlson
WINEMAKING
The grapes were hand picked at Vogelzang Vineyard on October 3 after a long, relatively cool growing season. After light pressing, the juice was fermented in stainless steel for the preservation of pure aromas and natural fruit character. The majority of the wine was aged in stainless steel tanks, while 33 percent was aged in a French oak upright tank to add a creamy dimension to the palate.
VINEYARD
Vogelzang Vineyard unfolds along rolling hills at the foot of Los Padres National Forest in the eastern Santa Ynez Valley. This winegrowing frontier, known as Happy Canyon, is the warmest area of the valley, enabling the grapes to reach rich ripeness while still benefiting from reliable coastal breezes. Here, the vines are progressively tended on well-drained soils of valley loam riddled with river cobble, resulting in Viognier with intense varietal flavors and exquisite balance.
